The Plays of Jon Lipsky

I contributed the book design and typesetting for a two-volume edition of The Plays of Jon Lipsky, published by Smith & Kraus in 2015. I used Satyr from Monokrom type foundry, a lively book face that I felt was well suited to Jon’s voice. It has beautiful italic and small-cap faces that gave me the visual variety to mark out the functional elements of a script. I aimed for open, welcoming layouts with clear and consistent character and stage direction markings, with an eye towards the actor working from the page in rehearsal.

Jon was an early mentor and advocate for me in the theatre, and I was honored to spend time with his body of work to help make it available to the next generation.
